Mangroves in Bangladesh occur in natural forests and as planted stands. The country is blessed with the largest single tract of mangrove forest in the world-the sundarbans. The Forest Department is engaged in extensive afforestation activities along the saline coastal belt. In fact, Bangladesh is apioneer country in regard to management of planted and natural mangrove forests.
