This is a monograph that presents a most systematical introduction to Chinese amphibians. It is divided into 2 parts, with the fist part consisting of 8 chapters: research history, morphological characters, origin and evolution, taxonomic system, faunal analysis, ecological types, cytological classification and resources pretection ; and the second part including general description of Gymnophiona and Urodela, taxonomic terms and measurements, keys and characters to 16 genera, 4 families and 2 orders of China, detailed morphological characteristics, biological data and geographic distribution of 43 species (including 2 subspecies) known in China, and taxonomic discussions of the most species. This monograph is attached with a table of geographic distribution of Gymnophiona and Urodela species and key to eggs of Urodela species, chromosome data, references and indexes of Chinese names and latin names of Chinese amphibian species, as well as with more that 340 drawings and photos, including 210 ink made drawings, over 40 distribution maps, and 90 color, white and black photos.
