Zhejiang is where greenware porcelain originates and where the major production of this ware takes place. Zhejiang experiences a 3,000 year long era of ceramic manufacture, starting with the Shang proto-porcelains were first made, as represented at the Huangmeishan kiln site in northwest Zhejiang, and carrying through the Qing at the time the Longquan kiln is extinguished. Over this extended period well-known kilns, such as Yue, Longquna, and Southern Song Guan (Official) were founded and thrived. Yue and Longquan kilns are the largest in terms of scale of the kiln complexes and in cultural influences.
